Cloud Computing Basics

What is it? Cloud computing refers to the access of computational resources on demand via a computer network. Those resources include computing power, software, data access, storage services, and more. The main benefit of the cloud is convenient, secure access to all your data and applications anywhere you have an Internet connection. Have you ever used Google Docs? Or stored photos on sites like Flickr? Then you're already using the cloud!

The key characteristic of the cloud is that the bulk of actual computing takes place "in the cloud." In other words, the processing of data happens not on the local computer, but on a machine somewhere on the network. What makes Flickr a cloud service, for instance, is not merely that one can store photos on the site, but that one can edit photos using the computational power of Flickr's servers.

QR Codes Gaining Popularity

A QR (Quick Response) Code, as shown below, is essentially a storage center for up to 4000 characters. With a QR reader app on your Smartphone, you can scan the image and be redirected to various options (contact info, emails, etc). Lately an increasing number of businesses are attaching QR codes to business cards, flyers, and other materials.

The purpose of a QR code depends on your creativity and what information you want to provide your audience with access to. Real estate companies have been placing QR codes on their “For Sale” signs, which when scanned, takes you to the MLS listing. The opportunities are innumerable, and sites like qrstuff.com can help you create, print, and embed your own QR codes at no cost.
